P25RX or P25RX-ll LCD Screen

Hey everyone just curious if it’s possible to use a
WIO with either of the original P25RX or P25RX-ll.
I have the LCD screen that Todd developed for both
P25RX’s but just wanted to see if it’s possible to

Yes, sir. I have been using a Wio on my P25RX since Todd put the Wio UF2 file on his web site long before the Micro was developed. The info is still on the web site on how to power the Wio/radio combo and how to connect to the P25RX/RXII.

Yes you can use the WIO with either one. I am currently using the WIO with a P25RX You will need to download and install the WIO firmware in this post here:

You can also make a custom USB “C” cable and bypass the rear connector on the WIO and connect directly to the P25RX. That is how mine is connected. Works well. The directions for making the cable is here:

If I understand I can use the WIO battery pack and the cable that comes with the WIO Terminal and do not have to make any special cables?

I recall that btt had tested wio battery pack but was not impressed with its short 45 mins of runtime due to small 650 mAH battery. It was also unable to power the RXII, due to low current output. The battery pack really was designed by Seeed to power only the Wio.

Can I charge the battery pack while in use and would that give me enough power

Connecting a Wio to the p25rx does not change any functions on the p25rx.

The wio has no impact on roaming or any other p25rx settings.

The p25rx can run stand alone without any pc connection. Config your p25rx in btconfig on a pc to roam and then write to p25rx flash mem. When you run the p25rx as stand alone without a pc connection, it should roam as you saved to flash. If it does not, the roaming is not set correctly.

The wio connection changes nothing, the wio is just a display.

I tried my P25RX and P25RX-ll on my laptop using the BT config software. Both units were able to roam with no problem. Connected each one separately to the WIO terminal and neither were able to roam no matter what WIO button or joystick direction I chose. Is there anyone out there that has P25RX roaming when connected to the WIO? The WIO and P25RX works great but I just need to switch channels with joystick.

I just looked at the open source Wio code for the p25rx rigs.. It looks like Todd disables roaming at power up. After connecting the Wio, You can enable roaming on the rig by using the blue p25rx button with a number of clicks.. Take a look in BTConfig under the Button CFG tab.. There is a option for the number of button clicks to enable / disable roaming. This is NOT a Wio button. You should be able to use the p25rx button to control your roaming on/off.
